Nagar Panchayat Sargaon is a village, rather a small town, in District Mungeli. It is situated on Bilaspur Raipur National Highway No 130 about 28 km from Bilaspur, the second largest city of Chhattisgarh and 90 km from state capital Raipur. Sargaon is surrounded by Patharia Tehsil towards West, Bhatapara Tehsil towards South, Takhatpur Tehsil towards North and Bilaspur Tehsi towards North-East. There is no railway station within less than !0 km. However Bilaspur is a major railway junction 29 km from Sargaon.
Sargaon name is generated from two words ‘sar’+’gaon’. Sar means pond and gaon means village – village of many ponds. Sargaon has its history of about 700-800 years. It is famous for its archeological values. Dhumnath temple which is of 13th century is still a centre of religious faith and heritage building – Bada of Akbar Khan has its historical importance. Sargaon is inhabited mostly by villagers, people from backward classes and tribals. Most of the people depend upon agriculture and daily wage earning.
